I made a second attempt at dyeing yarn with Wilton's icing dye. This skein turned out much better than the first, and the results were more or less what I was going for. I used leaf green, sky blue, and lemon yellow. I wish I'd done two yellow sections rather than one, because the yellow dye works very well. To avoid the splotchy, polka dot effect I experienced last time, I used almost boiling water (I heated the water in a tea kettle and then mixed it with the dye and the vinegar in a Pyrex measuring cup before pouring it into my squirt bottles). I also tried not to pour the little globs of dye at the bottom of the Pyrex cup into the bottles. I ended up with almost no splotchy spots. The other thing I did differently this time was I used much more of the dye gel which is probably why the colors are so much more vibrant than my previous attempt. I've got another skein soaking and I'm off to Michael's to get more colors.

that is stunning. i mean really stunning.
I am totally inspired. That is totally what i want to do next weekend when i turn in my thesis. and i am so blessed that you have worked it all out for me.
you are the best.
way to go.

Beautiful colors - but now we need a name. How about Amazon Rainforest? The colors look tropical to me. Good luck with your second batch!

Courtney, I have several pots of wiltons in my spice cabinet. I bought them years ago when I first started dyeing yarn. I'll never use them now that I have all this acid dye. Would you like them? I'm happy to mail them on to you.
and very nice yarn btw :) I love that color combo!

hello, those colors look great, i'm new at dying. Thanx for explaining how to use the wilton's. Everyone keeps talking about how it spots, i was afraid to try it. Nice to hear a good story from it.

Great job, Courtney! And you're getting closer and closer to my favorite colors -- a dyer after my own heart! That's such a happy hank of yarn -- reminds me of Scout's "Appletini". Kudos!
