I hate packing. I don't even like packing for a weekend trip no matter how excited I am about my destination. The idea of deciding what I'm going to want to wear, read, and knit several days in the future stresses me out. I inevitably bring way too much stuff, or worse, the wrong stuff. This past weekend was no exception. I was in Minnesota for less than 72 hours, and I could have fit what I actually ended up wearing into a backpack, but I brought a big rolling duffel bag instead. I guess it's good to be prepared and even better to have options.
Today I began the process of packing up my apartment for my move to Big Texas. Texas will henceforth be referred to solely as Big Texas. I don't have a good reason for that, it's just the way it's going to be. Anyhow, I'm packing up my apartment, and it's not like I can just throw a week's worth of stuff into a suitcase and pack up the rest, because that would be too easy. Most of my stuff won't make it to Big Texas until sometime in July. I won't see it again until August. I won't bore you with the details of why this is the case, I'll just say that I have to figure out which stuff to pack for use in San Antonio, Arcata, CA, and Boulder, CO over the next couple of months, and which stuff to part with until August.
This morning I had absolutely no desire to begin packing, so I decided to start with my knitting stuff, thinking that at least I could get out all of my yarn and look at it. Getting out the yarn was kind of fun, but deciding what to take with me was difficult. There is no way I am going to knit all of this yarn in two and a half months, but here it is. I have a giant ziplock bag of assorted sock yarn on the right, another biggie of baby yarn, some violet KnitPicks Shine for Picovoli , two skeins of Koigu Kersti, and random balls of yarn for works in progress. Aside from the yarn needed for the two pairs of socks I'm currently working on and Clapotis, this is it. I also had to choose which knitting books to bring. I have a few patterns there in the basket and aside from those, I'm only bringing Sensational Knitted Socks and Knitting Vintage Socks. That's it. To those of you who don't knit, I'm sure this looks like a lot of yarn, but there has to be at least one person out there who brings this much for a week long vacation. Right?
