The other day while walking through Michael's, I was inspired to knit something, or perhaps several somethings with Wool Ease Thick and Quick. Do you ever go into Michael's for no particular reason other than that it's on your way to the grocery store hoping to find that they have some really spectacular new yarn? They never do. Aside from a few old standbys, it's always the same old acrylic crapsky. For some reason, on this particular aimless trip to Michael's I was inspired to buy some Wool Ease Thick and Quick in what can only be described as Christmas Red (they call it Cranberry) and a ball of white Patons Allure. Maybe it's because the season of Nutcracker, Messiah, and Holiday Pops is in full swing, or maybe I've been spending too much time listening to YarnCraft (it's not a bad podcast by the way), but this is what I made...
This is basically just the elf hat pattern from Handknit Holidays with three rows of double croshay edging. I folded the croshay edging up and sewed it down over the ribbing. I probably should have done four rows of edging which would have covered up the ribbing entirely. As it is, you can see a bit of ribbing peeking out, but for my first try at deviating from a pattern in any way, it's not bad. It's also tiny. I was going for an adult medium, but it's really more of a child's size small. I went back to Michael's yesterday to get more Thick and Quick and a bigger needle (this one was done on a US 11 and I think a US 13 will work better). Next up, a Hanukkah Harry Hat.

That would look super cute on a little kid. Very nice.
