Bob and I went to see the Broadway Across America production of Avenue Q here in San Antonio the other night and I, for one, loved it. I just bought the original soundtrack on iTunes and I'm listening to it as I type. One of my favorite songs from the musical was The Internet is for Porn, and Bob and I have been singing it at random intervals for the last couple of days. Bob pointed out that if I were a resident of Avenue Q, it would be more appropriate if the song was called The Internet is for Yarn and this is definitely true. Though I've been rather absent from my own blog lately, I haven't been slacking in the blog reading department and I do spend at least a few minutes on Ravelry most days
In the knitting world, October (Socktober) is dedicated to knitting socks. I'm still trying to finish my February Lady Sweater (I'm on the second sleeve!), but I've also got a couple of socks going. I almost always have either a stockinette sock or a very simple sock on the needles for my on the go knitting. At the moment I'm working on a plain sock in Noro Silk Garden Sock. This sock bored me to tears for over 60 rows, but then the colors finally changed and now this sock is all I want to knit. For my money, Silk Garden Sock is a MUCH better yarn the Kureyon sock. My skein did have a knot in it close to the beginning of the sock which was irritating, but aside from that, it's a solid sock yarn.
This Noro sock is replacing the previous plain, on the go sock which I finished a little over a week ago...
This was knit with Misti Alpaca sock yarn. The yarn is pretty, but it's a little too flaccid and a bit too fine for my taste. I had to knit it with US 0s and I really prefer US 1s for sock knitting. Even so, I'm sure I'll eventually get around to knitting this sock's mate. I'm going to do my best to refrain from casting on for any new socks until I finish some seconds. At the moment I have at least 5 finished first socks without mates.
I'm on a yarn diet until Kid 'n Ewe, so I'm not supposed to buy any yarn. I've been very good so far even though I'm really itching to buy some of this sock yarn. My yarn diet doesn't prevent me from buying knitting accessories and I've made a couple of those purchases in the last few weeks. The first was a bit of a panic purchase back when we thought that Hurricane Ike was going to do damage in these parts. I was afraid I'd have no power so I bought a headlamp so that at the very least, I could knit. We never had so much as a strong gust of wind related to Ike, but it turns out that the headlamp is great for knitting dark yarns on small needles even when we do have power.
My other recent knitting related purchases have been these two project bags. For some reason, I am obsessed with little bags in which to carry small projects. I have a sewing machine and some cute fabric and these bags really can't be that hard to make, but until I figure out how, there's Etsy.
On the left is a Zipper Box Pouch from Japanese Handmade Etc. and on the right is a Knit Tuck from Sew Bendy . Please click the links to the sellers for better pictures of these items. They're both great little bags.
It's Thursday night which means it's time to knit a few rows in front of fresh episodes of some of my favorite programs. Bob and I are Time Warner customers and we're afraid that this might be the last week that we get ABC programs on our TV. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is between Time Warner and ABC, but if ABC goes away and I have to watch all of my shows on my computer, I will be unimpressed. I would happily switch to another provider, but unfortunately, none of the other providers really meet our needs the way Time Warner does. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? What are y'all doing about it?
