Last night, Bob and I were at our neighborhood H.E.B. with the intention of getting some type of dessert item and a bottle of wine to take to game night at our friend's house. I was thinking that we'd get some delicious ice cream or something of that nature. As I was perusing the various Ben and Jerry's flavors, Bob came around the corner with a box of Oreo Cakesters. I was horrified, but I knew that there was no way I was going to talk him out of getting them. I don't know why, but for some reason, Cakesters just didn't sound good to me. Maybe it's because Bob frequently insists on buying foods of this nature (for example, Strawberry Frosted Mini Wheats) when we're at the store at night, and the products are almost always far from delicious. Most of the time there is a coupon involved and he can't be stopped.
When we got to our friend's house, Bob immediately opened the box and one of the foil packages inside. Since two cakesters come in each packet, Bob gave one of them to me. I was skeptical, but I gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Cakester was quite delicious. The cake part reminded me of the chocolate cake part of a Hostess treat and the frosting in the middle tasted like oreo frosting, but it was much lighter and fluffier. I can't vouch for the chocolate flavor (I limited Bob to one box), but I have to say, the regular variety is not bad. The next time you're in the grocery store and feeling festive, give them a try. You won't be sorry.
